Our Work
Tidewater Community College Student Center
Virginia Beach, VA
Tidewater Community College Student Center is a 2,500 cubic yard cast-in-place concrete platform built over a picturesque pond on the college's Virginia Beach campus. The Virginia Beach campus is the college's largest, and the student center is a visually striking facility. The platform consisted of concrete pile caps, beams, and walls onto which Century erected 10 and 12-inch hollow-core, pre-cast planks. The platform is the first floor of a multi-story steel frame building with 53,000 square feet of concrete floors that Century cast on top of metal decking. One of Century's unique challenges on this project involved access to the work, which required the use of boats and barges as it extended over an existing body of water. Friction collars were used to support our unique, customized forming system on 80-foot long pre-cast piles. Century provided hoisting for the project by way of a large tower crane mounted on the adjacent property.
