Safety Specialist

The Safety Specialist performs the roles of consultant and team leader to manage a comprehensive review and reinvention of the safety program. All operational practices and outcomes resulting from related changes reflect the motto: “Safety First,” meaning all operations and installations are conducted with safety as a first priority over production. This position collaborates with organizational stakeholders to obtain buy-in, evolves and prioritizes according to the needs of the organization and operates with a high degree of autonomy. General responsibilities involve policy creation and implementation, vendor and customer relations, employee training and continuous improvement measures. The Safety Specialist is a champion of the “Safety First” culture through competence, credibility and confidence as evidenced by industry knowledge, exemplary practice, effective communication, leadership and teamwork.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Leads executive team and efforts to develop a “Safety First” organizational culture through proven, effective and measurable methods; creates a culture of accountability through zero tolerance standards
• Develops corporate safety vision focused on long-term goals, practical actions and fulfilling immediate goals and organizational needs
• Facilitates change management process and reviews numerous data points to inform action steps
• Remains up-to-date on existing and new industry safety standards and applies technical knowledge to ensure all operations are in 100% compliance with industry best practices and regulations
• Develops comprehensive safety manual through revision of existing documents and creation of new policies (pertaining to all corporate areas – office, field, shop operations, general practices, etc.)
• Collaborates across the organization to facilitate employee and supervisory training and communication
• Maintains a safe work environment, employs safe working practices, participates in safety and job-related training and certification, and continuously improves knowledge of operational safety
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Degree in Environmental Health & Safety or related field
• OSHA #30 (Construction) and OSHA #500 certifications
• Strong knowledge of applicable environmental statutes and safety regulations
• Operational knowledge of general industry and construction activities
• Ability to think creatively and provide effective solutions to complex problems
• Professional work experience in construction or industrial safety role
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills
• Demonstrated confidence in abilities and effective leadership to all levels of the organization
